MDW 2017 – events in the 5 Vie

Where: The area that traditionally extended from Piazza Affari to Via della Zecca Vecchia including Via Santa Marta and Sant’Orsola, has expanded to Piazza Gorani (and also includes Palazzo Litta and Palazzo Turati). Reasons to go: with its small streets and location-bijoux is the perfect place for events collected (even if there are two large groups, in Palazzo Litta and Turati). Traveling the district far and wide also allows small breaks for shopping in beautiful boutiques such as Wait and See or Funky Table, both in via Santa Marta. The big party of the district, the Design Pride, will be Wednesday, April 5: the parade leaves from Piazza Castello (corner Via Minghetti) at 6pm and will end in Piazza Affari with a party (until 24). The most pop appointment of the Fuorisalone. Must see: * Creative Minds, Foyer Gorani, Piazza Gorani (between via Brisa and via Gorani): an interesting exhibition because it shows how often design approaches art in its search for meanings and absolutes, while maintaining its peculiarity, ie the its link with …

MDW – Porta Venezia in Design

Where: it is an area that roughly includes Porta Venezia and Via Melzo. To which for ease of use I have also added events that although not officially part of the circuit are located in the neighborhood (Palestro area, Public Gardens). MM1 and Passante Ferroviario Porta Venezia, MM1 Palestro. Reasons to go: because it offers not only events related to design but also architectural routes (shown in red on the map) and eno-gastronomic ones(in ocher on map), perfect for non experts and to breathe the air of Fuorisalone. Must see: * Superfollies, c / o Garden of Arts, via Palestro 8: it is worth going to see what the Studio Toogood (practically ubiquitous at this Fuorisalone, see also here) was invented  to recreate those small architectural structures (called “follies” ) that occupied public spaces in the Victorian era: Faye Toogood used them instead in the Garden of the Arts to show poetic and eclectic furnishings. * Elle Decor Italia Concept Store, Palazzo Bovara, Corso Venezia 51: The project description starts with a quote from …

MDW Isola Design District events

Where it is: the quadrilateral between Viale Stelvio, Via Farini, via Pepe and via de Castillia, MM2 Garibaldi and Gioia, MM3 Zara, MM5 Isola Reasons to go: It is the first time that the island is organized to become a Design District, even if in the past someone had relied on its charm to present themselves at the Fuori Salone (for example the Dutch Droog and the sophisticated duo James Plumb) . So even just to see how the territorial marketing operation was managed I would say that a visit is really worth it. Isola is also one of the neighborhoods that should make the Milanese proud. In fact, I find that the city is really building a new face here, but it does not erase the past, that we have managed to experiment with respect, without canceling but rather leveraging pre-existence to give a soul to the contemporary. I refer, of course, to the recently constructed architecture – the Unicredit tower and the Vertical Forest but also the very pleasant Pavillion by De Lucchi, …

MDW – the Ventura Lambrate design district

Did you arrive here to read about Lambrate in the 2018 edition of the Milan Design Week? Click here Where: The area gathered between via Conte Rosso, via Ventura and via Sbodio (with, at its heart, via Massimiano, and with an episode on the private street Oslavia). MM2 Lambrate, buses 39 and 54, Lambrate Rimembranze stop. Reasons to go: The district reborn thanks to design welcomes, as always, many schools and young authors, engaged in experimental projects. The list of participants is endless (to see them all, Click here) and to unite all the selected designers and schools is, explain the organizers, the research in the use of the project as a social glue – the ability to use design as a safeguard element of tradition and the environment on the one hand and as the creator of the new on the other. (read here what happened last year) Must see: * Let’s make room for life by Ikea, Officina Ventura 14, via Ventura 14: Ikea presents its vision on the future of the living …
